Incentive events at the MCG

Business Events Australia bi-annual Dreamtime event was held in Adelaide last week, inviting over 100+ buyers keen to see how Australia is creating unique incentive events.

MCG Events, represented by Client Relationship Manager, Vanessa Syriopolous and Director of Sales and Marketing, Troy Stasinowsky showcased case studies of previous incentive events held at the MCG, as well as providing a sneak peek into what’s planned in 2024.

The incentive offering at the MCG has been rapidly evolving post pandemic, with a greater focus on the Business Event traveler than ever before. The popular MCG tour has been elevated for incentive events, with a focus on accessing more areas, creating an intimate meet and greets, and combining world-class dining into the experience.

MCG Events have had a large focus on Indian incentives over the past 18 months. It’s no secret that cricket is almost religion to the 1bn plus population, with the MCG considered a shrine and a ‘must visit’ destination. Last year’s ICC T20 World Cup shone extra light on the famous ground and saw over 90k fans pack in to witness cricket history – the match between India and Pakistan that was won in the last over.

“India has been a great growth market for us – especially in the Incentive space. With a new direct flight recently announced from Mumbai to Melbourne, we look forward to seeing this audience grow even more.”

Air India recently announced that they would be adding a new direct flight Mumbau to Melbourne from December 2023, operating 3 times a week and adding almost 40,000 seats per year into Victoria.

The trade show was also an opportunity to present new Incentive events in 2024 coming to the MCG. In a continuation of the tour elevation, MCG Events will be delivering experience in the culinary center, a unique progressive dining tour, and a new concept to launch in February that literally will take dining to new heights . . . watch this space!

Dreamtime 2023 re-introduced inventive buyers from markets that are once again looking to Melbourne including New Zealand and the UK.

“Our neighbours across the Tasman are looking to experience more of Melbourne’s food scene, whilst the UK are gearing up for a big British Lions tour.”

Tourism Australia made an announced a name change for the event moving forward, now called Australia Next, and growing the show to a annual event with the next being held in Cairns for 2024. Tourism Australia CEO Phillipa Harrison said;

“When I spoke yesterday morning…I said that we used to run this event every two years, but we haven’t had the opportunity to run it for the last four years, so we have decided – because we want to supercharge this industry, we want business events to come back and come back in force, and they are – we’re going to have an additional Australia Next event and we’re going to run it next year in 2024.”
